The Detroit Institute of Arts, also referred to as the DIA, has a collection valued over one billion dollars, making it the second largest city-owned museum of its kind in the United States. Originally named the Detroit Museum of Art, the DIA contains over one hundred galleries and more than 65,000 pieces; the DIA is one of the largest collections of art in the country.

The Detroit Institute of Arts is located in the heart of Detroit’s Midtown area, the neighborhood also home to Wayne State University, the Detroit Public Library, plus many trendy galleries, restaurants and nightlife spots. The museum is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays and open on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Fridays from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $8 for adults and $4 for youth ages 6 to 17. Over time the institution has grown to become one of the top art museums in the country and is known for its outstanding diversity, featuring collections of African, Asian, European, Native American, Modern and Contemporary works and much more.
