Diamond Head Theatre

Hotels near Diamond Head Theatre, Honolulu, United States .

Those travelers interested in arts and culture simply cannot miss the opportunity to visit Diamond Head Theatre while in Honolulu. Not just a cultural institution for the big island, but for the States in general, the theatre is so much more than just the oldest performing arts center in all of Hawaii.

Located on the slopes of Diamond Head, The Diamond Head Theatre initially opened in 1915 with the purpose of providing a venue for cultural events for those living in Honolulu. The theatre began under the title of Honolulu Community Theatre, and performances were scheduled for both locals and for the American troops stationed in Hawaii during World War II. Theatre, as well as films, have been a part of the schedule.

The Diamond Head Theatre became The Diamond Head Theatre when the name was changed in the 1990s. Since then, a number of other changes have been underway for the theatre, too, including the addition of musical and theatrical performances, as well as adding acting workshops for local youth to hone their theatrical skills and talents.

Some of the productions that have been put on at The Diamond Head Theatre include performances of "Meet Me in St. Louis," "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas," and "Les Miserables." Hours vary according on what the schedule for the season is, so it's best to check with the website or at the box office.

A number of hotels are a short distance from The Diamond Head Theatre, including Park Shore Wakiki, The Castle Ocean Resort Hotel Wakiki, and The Queen Kapiolani Hotel.
