In the city set to canals, a museum glistens just as the water weaving through Bruges, Belgium does. The Diamantmuseum Brugge may be one of the newest of the five diamond museums in the world, but its collection is rusty with age.

The actual art of diamond polishing began in Bruges back in the 15th century. Local goldsmith Lodewijk van Berquem started the idea, and the museum has duly noted the man. A replica of his workshop can be seen in the museum.

Aside from the city's history with polishing diamonds, the site also takes visitors through the history of diamonds. The Diamantmuseum Bruges displays a number of unique objects such as a replica of the crown of Margaret of York, along with thousands of real diamonds and actual mining equipment.

The museum remains open from 10:30AM to 5:30PM. Visitors should not miss the daily polishing demonstration at 12:15PM in the medieval basement of the museum. Admission costs 6 Euros for an adult, while students and children can enter for just 3 Euros.

Visitors can easily spend the night in Bruges, wandering through its unique streets covered in remarkable Belgium architecture.
