Located at 2601 Gentilly Boulevard in the Gentilly Terrace neighborhood of New Orleans, Louisiana, Dillard University is one of the historic higher education institutions in the city that is among the oldest and most traditional African-American private liberal arts colleges in the country, having been founded in 1869 in affiliation with the United Methodist Church and the United Church of Christ. The school is relatively small, with less than 1000 undergrad students enrolled as of 2009.

Unfortunately, during the 2005 Hurricane Katrina much of Dillard University was damaged by flooding, largely due to its proximity to the levee where it broke along London Avenue Canal. However, as of 2006 much of the campus has been restored, and students have completely returned to taking courses on campus after a spell at the New Orleans World Trade Center.
