Diocletian's Palace, in Split, Croatia, was built in 305 A.D. by the Roman emperor Diocletian on the bay of Aspalathos. Built of local white limestone, it has been well-preserved and is regarded today as an important historical landmark in Split.

The palace is massive in size, almost a city in itself, measuring 705 feet wide and 80 feet tall.

Because of its high degree of preservation, it is known as the world's most complete remains of a Roman palace.

The palace's significance can also be seen as it is featured on the Croatian kuna 500 banknote, part of the country's currency.
