Diocletian's Palace

Hotels near Diocletian's Palace, Split, Croatia .

Diocletian's Palace, in Split, Croatia, was built in 305 A.D. by the Roman emperor Diocletian on the bay of Aspalathos. Built of local white limestone, it has been well-preserved and is regarded today as an important historical landmark in Split.

The palace is massive in size, almost a city in itself, measuring 705 feet wide and 80 feet tall.

Because of its high degree of preservation, it is known as the world's most complete remains of a Roman palace.

The palace's significance can also be seen as it is featured on the Croatian kuna 500 banknote, part of the country's currency.

Accommodations can actually be found within Diocletian's Palace, including Hotel Vestibul Palace, with 11 guestrooms, located right in the heart of Diocletian's Palace, from $150 USD per night. Also on the location grounds is Palace Suites, from $135 USD per night, featuring just 8 guestrooms. These are both amazing choices of lodging if you truly want to stay right in the historical landmark!
