Discovery Museum Gold Rush History Center is located at 101 I Street and is under the banner of the Discovery Science and Space Center. Established in 1985, it seeks to tell the story of the exciting time in Sacramento which began with John Sutter’s discovery of gold and the subsequent boom times that ensued.

The fascinating galleries provide a look into Sacramento’s past. The Lure of Gold is one of the key exhibits, along with the Community Gallery, the Agricultural Gallery, the McClatchy Changing Gallery and the California Special Exhibit Gallery.

Winter hours (September through June) are from Tuesday to Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (closed major winter holidays). In July and August, hours are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., daily. Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and youths aged 13-17, $3 for children 4-12.
