Opened in 1981, Discovery Place in Charlotte, North Carolina is an ideal place for families to visit. It seeks to inspire exploration of the natural and social world in people of all ages and is one of the leading hands-on science centers in the United States.

Discovery Place features several great exhibits with various themes, including rainforests, aquariums and machines. Shows and activities like Animal Encounter and Hands-On Science go on daily and should be consulted at www.discoveryplace.org. The Charlotte Nature Museum, an annex of Discovery Place, features live animal displays and nature exhibits.

Also located on-site is the Charlotte Observer IMAX Dome Theatre, the largest screen in the Carolinas. It is a truly special cinematic experience for vieers and should not be missed. Several films are shown at the IMAX throughout the year, accompanied by various events at Discovery Place itself.

Discovery Place is open on Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and Sundays from noon to 5:00 p.m. Ticket prices vary upon what attractions visitors which to see, but range between $6 and $20 (September 2009). A great place to visit for the whole family, Discovery Place is a Charlotte attraction that is not to be missed!
