Discovery Place in Charlotte, North Carolina was founded in 1981. Promoting the exploration of the natural and social world, it is one of the leading hands-on science centers in the United States.

One of the premier attractions of the site is the Charlotte Observer IMAX Dome Theater. The dome-shaped screen gives viewers a truly unique experience, for the screen feels more lifelike than ever. It features several films throughout the year.

Discovery Place is, of course, a museum filled with wonderful and unique exhibits featuring rainforests, aquariums and machines among other things. Shows and activities are held throughout the day that are great for children eager to participate in hands-on events. The Charlotte Nature Museum is an annex of Discovery Place and is the home to several natural exhibits, including one with baby animals.

Open Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and Sundays from noon to 5:00 p.m., Discovery Place is a premier spot on the Charlotte tourism circuit. Ticket prices vary depending upon attractions and should be consulted at www.discoveryplace.org.
