A zoo at Disney? Well, not quite--Disney's Animal Kingdom is more than just a zoo, and in fact, describes itself as not a zoo at all!

At over 500 acres, Disney's Animal Kingdom is the largest Disney park in the entire world. More than simply animal exhibitions like in a regular zoo, the park is a sprawling expanse of different habitats, and is dedicated to conservation and accredited by the most important association of zoos and aquariums.

Disney's Animal Kingdom can be subdivided into seven different areas. Over at The Oasis, which also serves as the entrance to the park, a number of different animal habitats that house giant anteaters, wallabies, and spoonbills welcome visitors to the park.

Further along at Discovery Island, visitors are at the hub that connects them to all other areas of the park. This is the most commerce-oriented area of the park, with a number of gift shops, huge restaurants, and a live performance based on "A Bug's Life."

Africa, Rafiki's Planet Watch, and Asia all provide visitors with a truly rare experience to see some exotic animals from all over the world, including Komodo dragons, fruit bats, cottontop tamarins, Nile hippos, gorillas, and even elephants and giraffes.

Disney's Animal Kingdom closes earlier than other Disney parks, since the well-being of the animals that make the different areas their homes is an important factor in opening and closing times. Many of the different resorts and hotels in Disney are very close to Disney's Animal Kingdom, including The Silver Lake Resort, Disney's All-Star Movies Resort, and The Best Western Lakeside.
