District Six Mosque

Hotels near District Six Mosque, Cape Town, South Africa .

Cape Town has become one of the most visited areas in the world. As it is, the culture that Cape Town has can be said to be quite diverse, although mainly leaning towards Muslim. This is why there are a number of mosques around the city, and one of this is found in District Six, called the District Six Mosque.
The District Six Mosque is named after the area where it stands, which used to be an inner-city residential area in Cape Town. The area is rather significant especially during the forced removal of its 60,000 inhabitants right around the 1970s by the then apartheid regime.

The District Six Mosque served as the religious landmark for those who resided in the area, who practiced their religion in the said building. As it is, the mosque and the area has played a huge part in making District Six a “city within a city.”
