Originally opened at 1152 Lakeland Drive, in Jackson, Mississippi, the Dizzy Dean Museum is now a part of the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame. It is located in next to the Smith-Wills Stadium, which was previously a minor-league ball park. The museum's contents are entirely devoted to the memory of “Dizzy Dean”, a famous American pitcher in Major League Baseball. His full legal name was Jerome Hanna Dean; the nickname “Dizzy” is a tribute to his whirlwind pitching style. While Dean was born in Lucas, Arkansas in 1910, he made a career out of playing for the St. Louis Cardinals, the Chicago Cubs, and the St. Louis Browns. Today he is often recognized as one of the true greats of American baseball.
