The main library of the entire UC Berkeley Library System, Doe Library's vast collection of books in a beautiful building provides not just the student body, but also the community, with quite the resource. Established in the early 1900s and named after Charles Franklin Doe, the man who then-President of Berkeley convinced to finance such an undertaking, the library is open to the public daily until seven in the evening, and for students 24 hours a day.

A number of collections are housed in this building, including a great deal of the Berkeley Art History and Classics Library, as well as the Gardner Stacks Collection, also known as the main collection of books. Housed underground, The Gardner Stacks Collection winds more than 52 miles and consists of many of the university's most important books and collections.

In addition to oodles and oodles of books, the library also has many spaces for student study use, including tables where one can surf the internet and complete papers. For journalism students and buffs, the university's collection of newspaper and microforms is one of the best in the country, and a number of the city's aspiring lawyers can frequently be found perusing the government information stacks researching their big papers or cases.

Located right in the center of the University of California Berkeley's campus in Berkeley, the Doe Library is just a short walk from the main drag where a number of popular accommodations, including Hotel Durant, Hotel Nash, and The Bancroft Hotel.
