The Doge's Palace makes up just one of the many museums in Saint Mark's square in Venice, Italy. The 14th century palace showcases Gothic architecture with hints of the Renaissance and Mannerist periods throughout Italy.

Travelers stopping to feed the countless pigeons in Saint Mark's Square can easily find the public entrance to the Doge's Palace on Via Porta del Frumento. A museum tour takes visitors through its impressive courtyard, the Doge Apartments, Institutional Chambers, Palace Armory and the Prison.

The position of Doge in Venice was established in the 7th century to oversee autonomous administration of local affairs. The public always elected the Doge, rather than functioning as a monarchy.

The Doge's Palace in Venice remains open throughout the year. From November 1st through March 31st, the museum is open from 9AM to 6PM. From April 1st through October 31st, Doge's Palace is open for visits from 9AM to 7PM. Tickets can be purchased between 12 euros and 16 euros depending on which San Marco group ticket you decide to buy. Doge's Palace offers tickets, which include entrance to several museums in the area.

Visitors wanting to explore more of Venice can opt to stay the night. However, be aware that Venice is extremely touristy and expensive for this reason. Most restaurants and hotels up their prices for lack-luster food and service.
