The Doha International Airport is set to be replaced by the New Doha International Airport as the only international airport in Qatar in the year 2012. It is the first airport in the entire world to be fully handling the Airbus 380, the world’s biggest commercial aircraft. The new airport is built approximately two miles east of the old airport.

Two parallel runways are going to be built in the airport, one being 4,850 meters which makes it among the longest runways in the world, and the other runway will be 4,250 meters. The new airport will be the second largest airport in the world after the Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport which is 3,254 hectares. Third in line after the New Doha International Airport, is the Budapest Ferihegy International Airport which is 2,200 hectares.

Significant landmarks in this location include the Emiri Diwan, the Museum of Islamic Art, Doha Port, Qatar National Museum and Dubai Towers Doha. Nearby attractions include Souq Waqif, shopping, nightlife and the Islamic Museum of Art.
