The Don Harrington Discovery Center, distinctively marked by its sparse metallic sculpture “The Helium Monument and Time Capsule,” is located in Amarillo, Texas. The “Helium Capital of the World” commemorates the discovery of helium in 1868. This interactive science center is specifically geared towards the young American demographic, as children from near and far travel to explore the hands-on science exhibits and planetarium. The planetarium got a complete makeover in the early 2000s, and now features the latest in full dome video projection systems, Digistar 3. On average, the center sees about 300 visitors a day in its 157 interactive exhibits and 44 special exhibits. Currently on display are Arthur Ganson Art Machines, and Cabaret Mechanicals.
