Donaustadion

Donaustadion is the home stadium of the football team SSV Ulm 1846 and is a multi-use stadium able to hold up to 19.500 peoples. The stadium is located at the right of Danube.

The stadium was the first of its kind in southern Germany. In 1925, at the inauguration ceremony as part of the country Turnfest, were counted around 40,000 spectators. In 1952 was erected the stadium which still exists today and the first changes were made with the stepped increase in the standing capacity. In the 1980s, the benches have been replaced in the main stand with single seats and set up a floodlight system. In 1999, a new Official Tribune with 3,000 covered seats was built, of which one is a separate block with 500 spectator seats and was declared a non-block. This measure was then unique, and later found more imitators.

In addition to the local football stadium, the Donaustadion served several times as a venue for matches involving the national team of women. The stadium site has been repeatedly proven as athletic competition arena. The German Athletics Championships have been held here several times, last time in 2009.

The Donaustadion is one of the few stadiums in Europe which has a separate non-smoking unit (500 seats).

If the tourists are arriving by train, from Aussteigebahnhof Ulm Central Station they should take tram no. 1 and get off at Donaustadion stop, bus no. 6 and get off at the same stop.
