The goal of the Donegal Museum is laid out plain and simple. The Museum aims at collecting, preserving, recording, and displaying material pertaining to the history of Donegal County.

The structure of the Donegal County Museum bears a rich history. The site once was the town's Workhouse, which aided the poor during the Great Famine in 1845-1850. The Museum opened much later in 1987 with 8,000 artifacts spanning from prehistoric times to present day.

The Museum houses two exhibitions, one permanent and one temporary. The permanent display can always be found on the upper gallery while the temporary show rests on the ground floor of the museum.

While traversing the High Road in Letterkenny, visitors can easily stop at the Museum, Monday through Friday from 10AM to 4:30PM and Saturdays from 1PM to 4:30PM.
