Downtown Little River features a stunning viewpoint to have a look at the Little River mouth. While the town is home to only a few hundred people, Little River has been popular as a place for travelers to spend the night, with a number of small boutique inns offering exceptional accommodations overlooking the river. It is located a few miles south of Mendocino on a beautiful stretch of the Pacific Coast along the legendary Highway 1.

In the 1840’s, the town saw its first settlers when Lloyd and Samuel Bell established homes at Little River. Their land was bought by W.H. Kent and the town was known in its earliest days as either Kent’s Landing or Bell’s Harbor. Little River’s wood mill had a big impact on the community and urged on the town’s growth, which was eventually stunted when the mill closed in the late 1800’s. Little River remains a picturesque place for a visit to the beach or the Van Damme State Park.

Accommodations in town include the Inn at Schoolhouse Creek (the oldest resort in the area), Little River Inn Golf and Tennis (7901 N Hwy 1), the Auberge Mendocino (8200 n Hwy 1), the Glendeven Inn (8205 N Hwy 1) and Stevenswood Lodge at 8211 n Hwy 1.
