Drayton Hall Charleston

Hotels near Drayton Hall Charleston, Charleston (South Carolina), United States .

Famed for its Palladian architecture, Drayton Hall is truly a South Carolina treasure. It dates back to 1742 and represents one of Charleston's oldest plantation homes still in existence today. Construction of the building took four years. Commissioned by John Drayton, both free and slave labor were used in the project. While all other houses along the Ashley River were destroyed in the American Revolution or the Civil Water, the house has stood for seven generations of Drayton heirs. It sits atop 630 acres, which were once planted with indigo and rice. It is today managed by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

Tours are offered from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. The grounds are open from 9:30 am to 5:45 pm for visitors. Tickets are $4 for adults, $8 for children 12-18, and $6 for children under 12.

Hotels nearby include the Doubletree Guest Suites or the Mills House Hotel.
