Dresden Hauptbahnhof or Dresden Hpf, in short, (usually translated from German as Dresden Central Station) is one of two main inter-city transit hubs in the city of Dresden, Germany.
Designed by Ernst Giese and Paul Weidner, the building housing the train station was finished in 1897, situated at the southern border of the inner city. It had an important part in the growth and the development of the city. The station provides direct links to Berlin, Prague and Nuremberg. It replaced three stations in the south of the city.
In February 1945, during the Second World War bombing, the station was severely damaged, and the reconstruction is yet not completed. Even so, the station still became one of the most important railway stations in East Germany. A major reconstruction was begun in the year 2000 and now, the main train halls, the roof and other areas in the station are completely new.
