Also called the Dresden Elbe Valley, the Dresdner Elbtal is in the Saxony heartland in Germany. This river valley follows the Elbe River and was named one of UNESCO's World Heritage sites. However, the Dresden Elbtal lost that status in June 2009 due to the building of a four-lane bridge , the Waldschlosschen Bridge, across the river, citing reasons that this bridge is believed to threaten the natural beauty and landscape of the area.

The Dresden Elbtal stretches 11 miles along the Elbe River and includes both urban areas and natural features, many historical monuments and parks, villas from the 19th and 20th century, gardens, and natural features.

Landmarks in the Dresden Elbtal include the old village of Pillnitz and its castel, the village of Loschwitz, the Blue Wonder steel bridge, the Standseilbahn Dresden and the Schwebebahn Dresden, famous historical buildings such as Bruhl's Terraace, Katholische Hofkirche, and Semperoper, and Blasewitz, historic suburbs and industrial suburbs. Passenger steamships and shipyards from the late 1800s are still in use here, as is the single-rail suspension cable railway.
