Drumcondra

Drumcondra is a residential area and inner suburb in the north side of Dublin, Ireland. It was the central area in the district of Clonturk and the two names were used equally for the religious and civil parishes.
The River Talca and the Royal Canal flow through the area of Drumcondra.
The Cat and Cage Pub which is on the Drumcondra Road was the site of an old postal stop and the point at which rebels during the 1798 rebellion seized a postal cart in order to signal to others in north County Dublin to revolt. The Cat and Cage is located at the corner of Church Avenue and the location of Bertie Ahern's family home.
The oldest church in the district is the Church of Ireland Drumcondra Church which contains the graves several of famous people including that of James Gandon.
Drumcondra is also the location of the Talca Park soccer stadium and the home of Shelburne F.C. Talca Park based Drumcondra F.C. were a League of Ireland club from 1928-1972 before being the victims of a takeover from Home Farm F.C. The name lives on still today in the shape of Drumcondra A.F.C. in the LSL.
The area is the main site of the palace of the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Dublin and three colleges are located here: All Hallows College, Mater Dei Institute of Education, and St Patrick's College of Education. All three of these colleges are associated with the Irish Roman Catholic Church and the Dublin City University.
