Dublin City University is one of the universities in Ireland located between Whitehall, Glasnevin and Ballymun on Northern side of Dublin. The university has a campus which is spread across an area of over ninety five acres. It was initially named the National Institute for Higher Education, Dublin in 1975 and started to enrol students after five years. Later in 1989, the institute was given the status of university by Statute.

The Dublin City University offers education to more than ten thousand students across its Graduate and Post-Graduate programs. Additionally it has thousands of students studying under its distant education program. It has more the four hundred academic staff working towards better and quality education for students.

The institute was formed during 1975 and Dr Danny O’Hare was made director for institution. During 1979 the institution was relocated to the city centre of Dublin near Albert College Park. The University mainly focused on technology and science which was best known for its program called “Integrated Training” (INTRA). According to survey conducted during 2008, the university has more than thirty five thousand graduates. The university has great demand in Ireland for its Computer Applications when compared to other degrees.

The university provides various facilities for students which including sound studio, television studio, interpreting lab, networking facilities, video conference suit, graphical lab and computer lab. Academic organisation of University has been divided into schools and faculties. There are number of independent institutions which link with Dublin City University namely All Hallows College, St Patrick’s College of Education, The Gaiety School of acting, Mater Dei Institute of Education, Royal Irish Academy of Music and Turning Point.
