Hotels near Duke of Gloucester Street, Williamsburg (Virginia), United States .

Duke of Gloucester Street is the main thoroughfare in Colonial Williamsburg and was created as the settlement´s first main street in honor of William Duke of Gloucester. Years later, it was even referred to by President Franklin Roosevelt as the most historic avenue in the country. Even today, a stroll down Gloucester Street is like taking a step back through time. Along this nearly mile-long stretch, one can view historic storefronts and buildings such as the Bruton Parish Church, the Shoemaker’s Shop, Printing Office, King’s Arms Tavern and much more.

This main street running through Colonial Williamsburg is the heart of any visit to this historical area of Virginia. Many of the buildings along this avenue date back to the early 1700’s and formed the beginnings of the state’s colonial capital.
