Duomo di Napoli, the Cathedral of Naples, in Naples, Italy, is the oldest cathedral in Italy,built at the end of the 13th Century by decree of Charles I of Angio. It is dedicated to San Gennaro, Saint Januarius, the patron saint of Naples. The cathedral has been restored numerous times over the centuries. It was redone after the earthquake of 1788 and again in 1887. Its marble portals, however, are original.

The cathedral's interior is in the shape of a Latin Cross, with three naves divided by sixteen pillars that form Gothic arches and incorporate 110 granite columns. The ceiling of the central nave is made of wood adorned with five paintings by various artists: the Annunciation, the Presentation at the Temple, the Visitation, the Nativity and the Epiphany.
Famous not only for being a cathedral, the Duomo di Napoli is also well-known for the treasures it holds. Above the door of the main entrance are monuments that are the work of Domenico Fontana, including one to Charles I of Angiò, one to Charles Martel, King of Hungary, and one to his wife Clemenza of Hapsburg. These monuments were constructed because the original tombs of these people had been destroyed.
In the nave, one can find 27 antique columns that are the remainder of the original church. The baroque chapel, built in the 1600s, holds a silver bust of Januarius done by the French.
The cathedral is open to the public every day of the week, from 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., with breaks in between for services. The church's archaeological area, which is famous for discovering ruins of ancient Greek states, is open weekdays from 9 a.m .to 7 p.m., and closed during church festivities and days before the festivities.
