Durban International Airport has now a limited lifespan due to the construction of the King Shaka International Airport, which is set to be finished by 2010. It will be officially closed down once the new airport has been completed and commissioned by the South African government. What will happen to Durban International Airport is still unclear, but its location indicates that it may be developed for industrial purposes.

Durban International Airport is located right next to Durban Air Force Base, with whom it shares the runway.

The airport is also wifi capable and has several important offices like banks, car rental offices, medical establishments, and even prayer rooms. There are also facilities available for use by physically challenged individuals.
