The Wildlife Park at Grafenberg forest is thanks to its size of 40 hectars one of the largest parks in Dusseldorf, Germany. It is one of the oldest game parks in Germany and shows domestic species exclusively.
The park was created in 1927 and at that time consisted of only 10 acres and was home to fallow and roe deer. During the war the park was closed and reopened in 1952 when it was also expanded to 30 hectares. Today, the 40-hectare enclosure is large and is anything but a zoo. Thus the animals in the wildlife park are not presented, rather they decide for themselves when they approach people and show to them. In the vast, naturally designed enclosures there are red deer, roe deer, mouflons and the recent popular among young visitors wild pigs. Noteworthy is the fallow deer enclosure. Other park residents are pheasants and partridges, and in particular predatory deer foxes, skunks, wild cats and raccoons. Bee house, natural pond and anthills round off the domestic animal family of the Wildpark.
The park has plenty of available tables and benches, or a playground near the forest school which is - apart from the animals - an attraction for the kids. Frequently the park hosts children birthday parties and every two years in the summer the Wild Parkfest which is a family event with games where kids have fun and entertain.
