Just on the northern outskirts of Arnhem, the Open Air Museum contains just what its name denotes. The sky is truly the limit in this museum, with its indoor and outdoor attractions pertaining to how ordinary Dutch people lived over the past 250 years.

With more than 80 historic homes, farmhouses, and mills, the Open Air Museum was initially started by a group of individuals concerned about the increasing urbanization of the Netherlands in 1912. That idea would become what the Open Air Museum is today, a preservation of the rich heritage and traditions of the Netherlands.

The Open Air Museum has earned its keep over the years, winning the European Museum of the Year award in May of 2005. Open from April to November, visitors can spend a day in Dutch life from 10AM to 5PM. Even during winter months, the museum accommodates the holiday spirit with an ice skating rink. Admission is somewhat pricey, at 14 euros per adult and 9.80 Euros for children.

After visiting the Open Air Museum, families can stop at nearby Burgers' Zoo. Visitors can buy the Combi-Ticket, which includes a visit to the zoo and the open air museum for adults priced at 27.20 euro
