Located at 7840 West 56th Street in the northwestern outskirts of the city of Indianapolis, Indiana, Eagle Creek Park is the biggest park in the entire state and happens to be among the largest municipal parks in the entire country. It is situated alongside the Eagle Creek Reservoir, a major source of potable water for the surrounding communities. In total, the park covers an area of roughly 3,900 acres of land (with the reservoir, considered part of the park, occupying 1,400 acres of area).

The park is operated and maintained by the Eagle Creek Park Foundation, with the entire area being considered a nature reserve. There are approximately 10 miles of walking/jogging paths that zigzag throughout the park, and it is one of the most popular destinations for people in this major urban area seeking a bit of fresh air and contact with nature. Entrance to the park is only allowed during certain gate hours which vary according to the time of year, though on average the park opens between 6am and 7am, and closes some time between 6:30pm and 9pm. The fee to enter is set at $3 for people on foot or bicycle, and $5 for vehicles. Boat launching is charged separately.
