The station is staffed by one Amtrak employee, and is primarily used by tourists in the area visiting the Glacier National Park and surroundings, one of the more stunning natural settings in all of Montana.

As of 1987, the station is listed in the National Register of Historic Places thanks to its charming wooden architecture and traditional role in the expansion of the railroad system out into the western United States, having been built in 1913 by the Great Northern Railway.

The station of East Glacier Park falls along the Empire Builder line, which connects Seattle and Portland on one end with the city of Chicago on the other. Additionally, there is a short line connecting the town of East Glacier Park with Browning, which is roughly 15 miles due east.
