Tennessee has a truly rich and diverse history, but many people don't know the best way to research the state or their own family's roots and lineage. Thankfully, for locals and visitors alike, there are the services of the non-profit East Tennessee History Center.

The East Tennessee History Society concentrates on studying the history of Eastern Tennessee, as well as preserving important buildings and artifacts that might otherwise be lost to the indifference of time. In addition to their work with research and preservation, The East Tennessee History Society also runs The East Tennessee History Center, a museum and shop.

Visitors to The East Tennessee History Center will find different permanent and temporary exhibits all with the focus of depicting life and events throughout the many years of Knoxville and Eastern Tennessee in general. The museum was recently renovated, and that renovation included a significant expansion, so now there's even more space for exploring history.

In addition to the gift shop and the exhibits, The East Tennessee History Center has a collection of rare letters and documents, as well as acting as the host for The Knox County Archives.

The museum is open from ten in the morning until four in the afternoon Monday through Saturday, and on Sundays from one until five.
