Eberhard Karls University is one of the public universities located in Tubingen city, in the Baden-Wurttemberg region of Germany. It is one of the oldest universities of Germany and best known for its teachings in Natural sciences, Humanities and medicine. Today the university imparts education to more than twenty two thousand while seventeen hospitals located in Tubingen are associated with medicine faculties of university.

University of Tubingen or Eberhard Karls University was founded way back in 1477 by Eberhard Im Bart (Count Eberhard V). Later in Wurttemberg kingdom the university became the principal university of the region and currently it is funded by federal state of Germany, Baden Wurttemberg.

IN 1970 the university underwent restructuring and built various departments for research and studies inspired by French universities. Eberhard Karls University isn’t a true campus University and has four major areas of concentration in Tubingen including the Old Town, Wiljhelmstrabe, Morgenstelle and Kliniken. The university library is available for both public and affiliated students of the university ad has more than three millions volumes along with 7600 journals. In addition the university has fourteen faculties which are further divided into departments.

The University is governed by three bodies having different duties and functions – the Rectorate, the University Council and Senate. The university has numerous alumni who have been awarded Nobel Prizes in chemistry and medicine.
