Off the coast of Africa but a part of Spain, the island of Fuerteventura lends lessons in island culture. In the town of Tefia, visitors can learn more about the people of Fuerteventura by stopping at the Ecomuseo de Alcogida.

The Ecomuseo de Alcogida features seven restored homes in the traditional architecture of Fuerteventura, illustrating everyday life of former islanders and their occupations. The open-air museum showcases the differences between a rich and middle class family on the island.

Aside from the homes, the museum also contains several workshops where visitors can watch pottery, weaving, stone cutting, and even goat's cheese be made. The Ecomuseo de Alcogida seems to be an ideal place to take children. Parents and kids can even see how grain is ground in a mill and take care of farm animals.

The Ecomuseo de Alcogida remains open Tuesday through Saturday from 10AM to 6PM. Admission costs 5 Euros per person. However, children under 12 can get in for free.
