The Edinburgh Military Tattoo is a festival that takes place every year in August at the Edinburgh Castle, Scotland, The United Kingdom. International military bands, British Armed Forces and Commonwealth are the main performers of Military Tattoo.
In terms of etymology the word ‘tattoo’ comes from the Dutch expression “tap toe” which means “put the tap to”. Over 200,000 people see the Tattoo live at the Edinburgh Castle each August, and the tickets to the show were sold out in advance for the last ten years. The show is televised in 32 countries and it is held for charitable purposes and throughout the years has given over 6 million Pounds both to military and civilian charity organisations, such as the Army Benevolent Fund. It even has its own store called ‘Salute’.
