Edith Moore Nature Sanctuary

Hotels near Edith Moore Nature Sanctuary, Houston, United States .

Located at 440 Wilchester Boulevard, the Edith Moore Nature Sanctuary is one of the most enchanting spaces in the urban landscape of Houston, Texas, thanks to its tended and preserved natural habitat. In total, the Edith Moore Nature Sanctuary covers an area of 17.5 acres, flanking both sides of the Rummel Creek. There is a historic, restored log cabin that serves as a sort of visitors center and from which different kinds of outreach and community education programs are held. The entire nature sanctuary is operated by the Houston Audobon.

What is today the nature sancrtuary was originally bought in the 1920s by Edith and Jesse Moore, who donated it to the Houston Audobon Society upon her death in 1974. Over the following years, a variety of natural restoration projects were carried out such as the creation of ponds throughout the plot. The Edith L. Moore Nature Sanctuary is open to public visitors from 7 in the morning until 7 in the evening, except during summertime when the automatic gate is left open until 9pm. The sanctuary does not close for holidays; for more information, visit the official website at http://www.houstonaudubon.org/default.aspx/MenuItemID/195.htm.

The surroundings of the nature sanctuary are full of potential places for visitors to find accommodations, such as at the Omni Hotels, the Crowne Plaza Hotel, and the St. Regis Hotel.
