Edith-Ruß-Haus

The Edith-Ruß-Haus in Oldenburg, Germany is by no means a typical art museum. The idea behind the museum is not to collect and display artwork, but rather to present and discuss media art.

The Haus is made up of two buildings, one for exhibitions and presentations and the other for artist's studios and apartments. The site features an artist residency program, giving three lucky artists a year a 10,000 euro stipend.

As media art generally involves work with light movement and the flow of digital data, the Edith Ruß-Haus remains truly unique in its collections. Edith Ruß herself left an endowment to the city of Oldenburg in her will, instructing the formation of such a place where art could be created that would transition into the 20th century.

Visitors looking to see the who's-who of media art can stop by the Edith Ruß Haus Thursday through Friday from 2PM to 5PM. The site is also open Saturday and Sunday from 11AM to 5PM. Admission costs 2.50 Euros.
