Cadí-Moixeró Natural Park

Cadí-Moixeró Natural Park is the most important nature preserve in Catalonia (in the north of Spain). The Cadí-Moixeró Natural Park was established in July 1983 in response to the need to protect the Sierra del Cadí and the nearby area. It encompasses a group of pre-Pyrenean mountains: the heights of Cadi and Moixero, the mount of Pedraforca and much of the Tosa d'Alp and Puigllançada mountains.It has a total area of 41,342 ha which makes it - together with the recently established Alt Pirineu Natural Park - one of the largest parks in Catalonia. The park stretches across three rural districts, L’Alt Urgell , El Berguedr and La Cerdanya. The Cadí and Moixeró are connected by the Tancalaporta pass and form an imposing mountainous barrier in the Pre-Pyrenees extending 30 km from west to east.

The Cadi-Moixero Natural Park is classified as a mountain park because the altitude ranges from 900 m at the bottom of the valleys which form the southern margin to 2.648 m at the summit of the highest peak, the Puig de la Canal Baridana. The scenery and ecosystems are Alpine in character with thick woods and meadow that contrast with the highly distinctive rugged outline of the great limestone rocks.

One of the most attractive mountains for climbers El Pedraforca, is located within the park and occupies a special place in Catalan mountaineering tradition. It deserves special attention, as it provides a beautiful and thrilling setting for climbing and is considered an authentic landmark for hikers and mountaineers in Catalonia.

Entry to the park is free and unrestricted, but before visiting it is recommendable to visit the Information Centre and Offices as these are open all year, including public holidays.
