El Rosedal Park provides a beautiful and peaceful retreat for those in the heart of the bustling district of Palermo, in Buenos Aires, Argentina. It is situated in the heart of the Tres de Febrero, or the "Parque del Tres de Febrero", which was once the property of Don Juan de Rosas. The land was confiscated by the army, at the Command of General Urquiza, in the Battle of Caseros on February 3, 1852. The former president Sarmiento eventually created a public preserve and this entire property today is known as the Park of the Third of February. It was officially opened in a ceremony with then president Avellaneda, who planted its first magnolia bush. The park, which today is known for its beautiful foliage and flowers, also was given a tree at the special request of Sarmiento. Although he did not know the name at the time, the tree turned out to be a Jacaranda. Today, the beauty of the magnolia flowers and Jacaranda leaves are part of what help to make this one of Buenos Aires' most beloved parks.
