Officially, Empire State Plaza consists of a number of Rockefeller-designed buildings intended to evoke the beauty of sculpture through architecture. While that might be more of a reach for minds when it comes to the impressive skyscrapers, this philosophy is more easily understood when looking at The Egg, which serves as a home for the performing arts.

All of the buildings in the plaza are connected by a concourse, which has numerous found courts, banks, a gym, and a visitor's center. Above ground, the buildings are clustered around a series of reflecting pools, which are a popular hang-out spot during the hot summer months.

Visitors to Albany will find that this hub of downtown is surrounded by a plethora of hotels, including CP Albany, 74 State Hotel, and a number of the big chains such as Holiday Inn Express and Hampton Inn & Suites.
