English Garden

The English Garden is one of Geneva’s most visited and vivacious parks. It dates back to 1854 and regularly enlarged and embellished it adds to the city’s history. The English Garden skirts the left bank of the lake Geneva and is also where cruises on Lake Geneva leave from.

This is one of the most beautiful parks in Geneva even if there are quite a few and in the waters of the Rhone tourists can see not only ducks but also swans.

The English Garden, is home to the Monument National, a statue of two young women symbolizing Geneva's attachment to the Swiss Confederation as well as to the large elegant bronze fountain with its superposed basins borne by naiads, the work of the Parisian sculptor Alexis André in 1862.

Busts of painters, François Diday and Alexandre Calame as well as the sculptor, August de Niederhaüsern, (nicknamed Rodo) can be found in the premises of the garden.

Last but not least, the star of the English Garden is the famous flower clock (L'Horloge Fleurie) decorated with over 6000 plants which was installed in 1955 to honor Geneva's watch-making industry. The clock is the largest in the world, five metres in diameter and 17,7 meters in circumference with the largest seconds-arm in the world measuring over 2.5 metres. The clock is a combination of technology and floral art and also is a symbol of the Geneva watch industry . There is no admission fee at the clock.
