Enkhuizen, the terminus railway station is situated in Enkhuizen, the Netherlands. The Nederlandse Spoorwegen operates the services of this station. The station is based at the end of Amsterdam - Enkhuizen railway line.
Enkhuizen is one of the oldest stations in the entire Netherlands. Railway transportation services started in the year 1885 here. The station has a proper blend of both old and modern European architecture. The station is also popular for its bicycle and bike center at the station premises.
The station has a nearby ferry departure point in adjacent location. Ferries can be availed from the nearby harbor to go to different places like Stavoren or to Medemblik. Tourists generally prefer to travel in a triangle using both boats and trains. Amsterdam central station is only an hour’s journey from the station. Direct transportation services to both Hoorn and Amsterdam are also available from Enkhuizen. During the summer time, ferries for cyclists and pedestrians operate on various roots like Enkhuizen to Medemblik, Enkhuizen to Stavoren and Enkhuizen to Urk. The famous Zuiderzee Museum is in proximity with the station and it does not take more than ten minutes of walking to reach the museum from the railway station. Besides the Zuiderzee Museum, there are plenty of old period houses on Breedstraat with Renaissance facades or Late Gothic. The Dromedaris Tower is also an example of a classic architectural beauty. It was built in 1540 to protect the harbor. The nearest airport is in Schiphol and is around 56 Kms away from the station.
