St. Mark's Basilica in Venice, Italy (known in Italian as the “Basilica di San Marco a Venezia”) is the most famous cathedral church in Venice and one of the most famous examples of Byzantine architecture. Built in 828 and located on Piazza San Marco, it was originally the chapel of the Venetian rulers,later becoming the city's cathedral.

The exterior of the basilica is divided into three registers: lower, upper, and domes. The Greek Horses of St. Mark were installed in Basilica in 1254 and date to classical antiquity.
The interior of the basilica is based on a Greek cross, with each arm divided in three naves and emphasized by a dome of its own. Its upper order is covered in gold, bronze, and gemstone mosaics, featuring both Byzantine and Gothic influences. Other beautiful mosaics decorate the Baptistery, the Mascoli Chapel, St Isidor Chapel and the Zen Chapel.

St. Mark's Basilica is open year-round to the public. Hours to enter the Basilica are 9:45 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and on Sundays and holidays from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. . Entrance is free to enter the Basilica.

St. Mark's Museum is open daily from 9.45 a.m. to 4.45 p.m. Entrance is $6 USD. The Pala d'oro is open from 9.45 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Sundays and holidays from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.for $3 USD. The Treasury is open from 9.45 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Sundays and holidays from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.for $4 USD.
The Bell Tower can also be visited, in the month of October and from Easter to June from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. for $11 USD; from November to Easter from 9:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. for $11 USD; and from July to September from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. for $11 USD.
