Erasmusbrug (or “Erasmus Bridge”, also nicknamed “The Swan,”) is a bridge crossing the Nieuwe Maas River, connecting the two halves of the city of Rotterdam in the Netherlands. Designed by Ben van Berkel and completed in 1996, the cable-stayed bridge is 2650 feet long and has a 456 foot high asymmetrical pylon.

The bridge's southern span has a 292 foot long bascule bridge for ships that can't pass under the bridge. This bascule bridge is the largest and heaviest of its kind in Western Europe.

Erasmusbrug cost about $111 million to build in 1996. After its opening, it was found that the bridge would swing under strong winds. Shock dampers were then installed to make the bridge more stable.
