The Torre de Espantaperros, or Espantaperros Tower, dates from the 12th century and is in Portugal. It is part of a fortress called Alcazaba, It is also known as the Watchtower or Alpendiz Tower. In English, it translates to “Scare the Dogs” Tower.
With an octagonal plan, this tower in the Arabic style is solid, except for its two upper chambers. Originally a small square construction sat atop the tower, decorated with criss-crossing arches. A Mudejar-style top housing a bell was placed on top of the tower during the Christian era. From the top of the tower, which is the highest point in Badajoz, one can see magnificent views of the city.
