The Estadio da Luz is a stadium located in Lisbon, Portugal.

The official name of the stadium is Estadio do sport Lisboa e Benfica and is the home ground of the famous football team Benfica Lisbon. Benfica’s supporters also call it “The cathedral”. The stadium hosted several games in the UEFA Euro 2004, including the final, but this is not the original stadium. The old one was demolished to make place for the actual one. The former stadium was also called Estadio da Luz and was one the biggest stadiums of the world with a capacity of 120000 seats, an almost double capacity then the new one which has 65400 seats.

This is a highly advanced technological stadium and it was designed to use as much natural light as possible. The roof is made of polycarbonate and filters the sun rays creating an empty space in the four corners of the stadium and giving natural light the opportunity to light the stadium further. The three rings of interior tiers characterizes the interior space which is marked by the luminosity that makes the mainly red colours brighter. UEFA classified it with five stars allowing it to host all major European cup finals.

The easiest way to get to the stadium is using the metro which is fast,safe,clean and cheap. The buses aren’t recommended because of the traffic.
