Eureka Tower

The Eureka Tower is a skyscraper, 300 meters high, located in the Southbank Precinct in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. The architectural firm Fender Katsalidis Architects was responsible for the skyscraper’s design. Presently, it is the tallest residential tower in the world, when measured to its top floor. Q1, located on the Gold Coast, however, is officially the tallest residential building in the world due to its spike.

The tower’s name is taken from the Eureka Stockade rebellion of 1854 during the Victoria gold rush. This event has been incorporated into the tower’s design with its gold crown symbolizing the gold rush and the red stripe running through it symbolizing blood shed during the revolution. The white lines on the tower and its blue glass represent the colors of the stockade flag.

Construction in the tower was completed in 2006 and it was officially opened on October 11, 2006. The tower boasts of the Eureka Skydeck 88, which is an observation deck that occupies the 88th floor or the structure. It is open to the public and it provides an expansive view of surrounding Melbourne.
