A Smith Bowman Distillery

Hotels near A Smith Bowman Distillery, Fredericksburg (Virginia), United States .

Located at 1 Bowman Drive in the southern reaches of the Virginian city of Fredericksburg, the A. Smith Bowman Distillery is one of the oldest and most successful distilleries in the entire state. Originally established some 60 miles farther to the north in Fairfax County, the Bowman Distillery was founded in 1935 by Abram Smith Bowman along with both of his sons, DeLong and Smith.

In the year 1988, the company moved its equipment and all down to Fredericksburg, where they had purchased an abandoned cellophane plant, restoring and readapting the building to their activity. Today, the Bowman Center in Fredericksburg is a hugely successful and important industrial park and business center, a bastion of the local economy without a doubt. Though the distillery is not currently (as of late 2009) offering guided tours, there are plans to change that around in the near future. Stay tuned to updates on the distillery's website, http://www.asmithbowman.com/home/index.htm, for more information.

Places to stay in the surroundings of the Bowman Distillery abound, and a quick sampling would include the Super 8 Fredericksburg, the Richard Johnston Inn, and the Dunning Mills Inn.
