EWE-Arena

EWE-Arena is an indoor sporting arena in Oldenburg, Germany. The arena hosts two teams: the EWE Baskets Oldenburg professional basketball team and the handball ladies VfL Oldenburg team. The multi-purpose arena was opened in June 2005 and holds up to 4,000 spectators at boxing, basketball and 2,300 when playing handball. It is special due to the circular design of the arena. The Arena broadcasts since 2005 as part of the sports show boxing events from the hall. In June 2006 the managers denied the German men's national volleyball team here in the context of the European Championship qualifying game against the Czech Republic.

The EWE ARENA is an urban character for the development of the area between the station and fair. As a pivot point it mediates between urban structures and the landscape that is brought up as a green slope to the arena. The all-round glazing reflects the basic design ideas and makes visible all the structural elements. At the same time this transparency to the powerful building provides a surprising lightness. In addition, the arena is used for other sporting events, concerts, exhibitions, fairs, congresses and conventions.
For the EWE Baskets began a new era with the move to the EWE ARENA for the 2005/06 season. By appointment overlaps the team had to repeatedly dodge caravan with full for home games in other cities. VfL had competed for more than 20 years in the 1 Ladies' Handball Bundesliga. With the professionalization and the EWE ARENA in the back, the FC will again raise the handball enthusiasm of earlier years.
