Fairchild Tropical Garden, which is located in Coral Gables, Florida, near the metropolis of Miami, holds an extensive collection of exotic and rare tropical plants. There’s a wide selection of palms, flowering trees, vines, and cycads. The garden was founded in 1938 by Robert H. Montgomery, a businessman and attorney who loved plants. Special events and areas include the International Mango Festival which is held each year in July; the Richard Simons Rainforest, a two acre swath of jungle-like flora; and the Members’ Day Plant sale, an annual event that takes place in October. Fairchild continues to be a center for palm research and conservation. Adult entrance costs $20; discounts are offered to seniors and children.
