Salt Lake City’s Family History Library of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the largest genealogical library in the world. In fact, it contains copies of millions of original records. More than a local attraction, the Family History Museum is a world attraction, drawing in thousands of individuals interested in finding information about their heritage each year.

The library was founded in 1894, its original purpose being gathering information about Mormons. Since that time, the museum has changed and grown and today contains over 2.2 million rolls of microfilmed records and 300,000 books. With a staff of over 200 and a seating capacity of 365, the museum has become Salt Lake’s central tourist attraction.

The Family History Museum is open Mondays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Tuesday through Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Admission is free of charge. For more information, interested parties should check out www.utah.com/mormon/family_history.htm.
